Surface Exploration
This project explores the expressive potential of embroidery as a medium for surface storytelling. Drawing inspiration from the bougainvillea flower, the work investigates how color, texture, and stitch can capture the vibrancy and delicacy of natural forms. A diverse range of hand techniques, including smocking, honeycomb quilting, appliqué, gathering, and traditional hand embroidery, were combined to create layered, tactile surfaces.
The process emphasized precision, patience, and an intuitive approach to material exploration. Each stitch became a means of translating emotion into texture, transforming flat fabric into a dynamic and dimensional surface.
Through this project, embroidery is reimagined not only as embellishment but as a language of expression, one that merges craftsmanship, experimentation, and personal narrative.
