Dye bath Residue

This project focused on repurposing dye extracted from previously used dye baths, aiming to extend the life of color beyond conventional textile applications. Instead of discarding the residual dye solution, the remaining pigment was carefully extracted and stabilized using potato starch as a natural binder.

The extracted pigment was then processed and transformed into watercolour cakes, shifting the dye from a textile medium to an art material. This approach highlights how waste generated during textile dyeing can be reimagined as a resource for creative reuse.

In addition to material experimentation, the project explores future possibilities for scaling and application, such as eco-inks, bio-pigments, and educational art materials—positioning dye waste within a broader framework of circular and sustainable design practices.

The project demonstrates a process-led, research-driven approach that bridges textile dyeing, material innovation, and sustainable thinking
